Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. Kilometres of dry stone walls framing a crystal clear sea: these are the elements characterizing the Cinque Terre landscape, one of the least contaminated Mediterranean areas of Liguria and the Tyrrhenian area.

Five miles of rocky coastline embraced by two promontories, five little villages lying on stone capes facing small bays. Built in roman age, the five villages did not have a large development because of their troubled history and their severe location and thus they still have the charm of old Ligurian villages with colourful narrow streets and boats parked along the street.

The creation of the Cinque Terre landscape, made of terraced steep hills, declining to a crystal clear sea and a coast spotted with bays, beaches and rocks, has been possible thanks to the cultivation of vine, the area's main activity

Lovers' lane and the other paths
The Lovers' lane (Via dell'amore), a path linking Riomaggiore to Manarola, is one of the most popular paths in Italy. Entirely carved into the rock, it offers fascinating panoramas on the maquis and the steep rocks.

Thanks to its central location, Volastra is a crossroads for the Cinque Terre paths. The paths to Corniglia and the Montenero sanctuary depart from the centre of the village.
